HelpDeskZ Hosting Services
Domain Names free with all Hosting accounts
HelpDeskZ is a free, open-source help desk. Customers open tickets from a web form or by email. Staff work a browser queue with priorities, canned replies, attachments, custom fields, and an integrated knowledge base.
The project also documents SEO-friendly URLs, a Twig template engine, SMTP sending, auto-close after a set number of hours, multiple languages, a news section, and a login-share option for tying the desk to another application.
Who HelpDeskZ is for
Operators who already run HelpDeskZ or need to export tickets and articles from an old copy. It is a poor default for a new public desk that must stay on current PHP and receive ongoing fixes. See also customer support software for business.

What you can run with HelpDeskZ
Legacy ticket recovery
Bring up an existing copy long enough to export tickets, replies, and knowledge-base articles.
Private staff queue
Test form and email intake on a hostname that is not advertised to the public.
Knowledge-base archive
Review canned replies and articles before you move them into a maintained help desk.
Staging before migration
Confirm login-share, SMTP, and auto-close behavior, then plan a mapped move to current software.
Installing HelpDeskZ
RSH Web Services offers HelpDeskZ installation through Softaculous in cPanel. Use this method first when you need the packaged 2.0.2 build. It creates the application files, database, and administrator account. RSH Web Services can help with installation.
For manual installation, use a trusted 2.0.2 package, create a least-privilege database user, follow the bundled installer, and isolate the site. Configure SMTP, email piping or polling, departments, canned replies, and backups before you attach a real support address.
Hosting requirements
HelpDeskZ 2.0.2 is a PHP application with a database and Twig templates. Its 2021 requirements are not a safe baseline for current PHP 8 branches. Confirm PHP version, extensions, writable paths, and mail settings from that package, then test on staging.
Migrating or upgrading HelpDeskZ
Start with cPanel backups of every HelpDeskZ file and a full database export. For a Softaculous-managed install, use only the HelpDeskZ backup, clone, restore, or upgrade controls shown there before manual work. Softaculous does not convert another help desk into HelpDeskZ, and 2.0.2 is not a current upgrade line.
Move matching files and database together, then test staff login, web tickets, email replies, attachments, canned responses, knowledge base, news, custom fields, and auto-close. Plan a separate move to maintained software for ongoing public support.
HelpDeskZ security
Treat 2.0.2 as legacy code. Restrict access, use unique credentials, limit staff rights, and keep sensitive files off the install unless you have reviewed the code. Hosting firewall and DDoS controls do not patch an old application. Disable login-share and unused mail hooks you do not need.
Backups and recovery
Back up the HelpDeskZ database and all files, including configuration, attachments, templates, and knowledge-base media. Keep several dated restore points and one copy outside the account. Create a fresh backup before any change. Restore privately and verify tickets, articles, users, and mail.
Hosting stack includes NGINX, HTTP/2, PHP, a CDN, firewall security, DDoS protection, and SSD storage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is HelpDeskZ suitable for a new production help desk?
No. Version 2.0.2 dates to March 2021. Do not choose it for a new desk that will hold customer mail. Keep any required copy isolated for recovery or migration, then move the data to maintained software.
Is HelpDeskZ the same product as HelpDEZk?
No. HelpDeskZ and HelpDEZk are different Softaculous applications. This page covers HelpDeskZ only. Softaculous will not convert one into the other.
Can customers open tickets by email?
Yes. The project documents opening and answering tickets by email, plus SMTP options. Test piping or polling on staging. Do not point a busy public mailbox at this release until you accept the maintenance risk.
What does login-share do?
Login-share is documented as a way to tie HelpDeskZ authentication to a third-party application. Enable it only after you review that integration. Unused single-sign-on hooks increase risk on an old codebase.
How should I test HelpDeskZ before real mail arrives?
Install on a private hostname. Open a web ticket, reply by email, add an attachment, use a canned response, publish a knowledge-base article, and confirm auto-close settings. Restore a backup to a second location before you decide to migrate or go live.
How much storage does an archive need?
The package is small. Growth comes from attachments, articles, news files, and backups. If you are only exporting data, a modest plan is enough. Leave room for a full restore copy.
Can notices come from my domain?
Where SMTP is configured, HelpDeskZ can send from an address on your domain. Use a dedicated sender and test delivery. Disable auto-close or news mail you do not need.
Do SEO-friendly URLs make this a marketing CMS?
No. SEO-friendly URLs only change how ticket and article paths look. HelpDeskZ is still a help desk. Do not treat it as a current public CMS.
What should I back up before any change?
Copy the database plus application files, attachments, templates, and knowledge-base media. On Softaculous, use the HelpDeskZ backup control first. Restore that pair privately and check tickets and articles before you alter the live copy.
