Installation

Softaculous in cPanel: RSH Web Services offers installation of Framadate through Softaculous in cPanel. Open Softaculous, select Framadate, review the offered package and installation checks, choose the intended domain and directory, then follow its setup form. This historical package remains listed, but Framadate is no longer maintained; use this information for reviewed legacy work, not a new production deployment.

Manual installation: For an existing legacy installation only, obtain the matching archived package and follow its version-specific installation documentation. Create the database in cPanel, restore reviewed configuration and test privately; do not expose an unreviewed archived package as a new public service.

Hosting Requirements and Licensing

The archived README identifies PHP 7.3 and MySQL or MariaDB. Those historical references do not establish compatibility with supported PHP releases. The original Framadate application uses the CeCILL-B free software license. Preserve the applicable license and notices when modifying or redistributing its files.

Migration

cPanel options first: Start with a review of the existing Framadate installation. cPanel File Manager can transfer or package its files; for a database-backed installation, cPanel database tools and phpMyAdmin support exporting and importing its database. Ask support about an intact account transfer before attempting a manual rebuild. Preserve poll choices, participant responses, comments and administration links.

Preserve poll identifiers and existing participation and administration links wherever practical. A cPanel-assisted move keeps the original application; it does not translate its database into Pollaris.

Manual move: Copy the matching application files and all storage from a consistent snapshot, update only the required connection or path settings, and test existing participation links, choices and responses. Upgrades

cPanel preparation: Preserve the existing files and storage with cPanel tools before a version change. Check the selected PHP version and package requirements first. Confirm the application-specific update procedure and available package before proceeding.

Manual upgrade review: There is no supported ongoing Framadate release stream. A Softaculous update does not convert Framadate into Pollaris. Any future change to another product requires a separate, verified migration plan and a decision about preserving old polls.

Security and Privacy

Treat participation and administration links as information that can grant access. Share each only with its intended audience and avoid collecting sensitive participant details in archived software without a reviewed protection and maintenance plan.

Keep the Framadate administrator account separate from public participation or tracking. Use strong credentials, supported server software and the narrowest file permissions that allow operation. Review online privacy principles before collecting identifying information.

Backups and Recovery

cPanel backup options: Save a consistent copy of the Framadate application directory and its storage with cPanel file and database tools. Include all database tables when the installed package uses a database, as well as settings and uploaded resources.

Recovery check: Restore a sample backup into a separate private location and verify existing participation links, choices and responses before relying on it. Is the current framadate.org service the same software?

No. The archived official README says that the hosted service now uses Pollaris. Its current interface and capabilities should therefore not be used to promise features in the old self-hosted Framadate package. Identify the actual application and version behind an existing installation before comparing behavior or following a tutorial.

Will updating Framadate in Softaculous install Pollaris?

No. An update for the Framadate package concerns that application, not a conversion to a different product. Do not overwrite an existing database expecting old polls to appear in Pollaris. Preserve the legacy installation and investigate a separately documented transfer process before making any change to the software serving your participants.

How can I avoid confusing participants about meeting times?

Include a clear time zone and calendar date in the poll instructions, especially when people are in different countries. Do not rely on an unverified automatic time-zone feature in the archived package. After participants answer, send a final confirmation with the selected time and location rather than treating the poll itself as a calendar invitation.

Does a Framadate date poll reserve a venue or calendar slot?

A response to a date poll communicates availability or preference; it does not by itself book a room or create a confirmed appointment. With a legacy Framadate installation, verify the result and send a separate meeting confirmation. Include the location, time zone and any reservation details so participants understand what has actually been arranged.

How should I handle a tie in a Framadate poll?

Choose a decision rule before inviting responses, such as prioritizing essential participants or asking the organizer to select among tied options. Explain that rule in the instructions. A tied Framadate result is useful information about preferences, but the application cannot decide which practical constraint matters most. Send a separate message with the final decision.

Should I include personal details in a Framadate subject poll?

Keep subject choices and participant names limited to what the group needs for the decision. Avoid including confidential health, account or personnel information in a shared poll. The archived Framadate software has no ongoing maintenance, so a casual participation link should not be treated as a secure channel for collecting sensitive information.
