cPanel - Softaculous - Installing A Script
Follow these steps to install a supported script through Softaculous. The process selects the application, domain, directory, version, administrator details, and other options before creating the installation and reporting its result.
Installing a Script with Softaculous.
Our example is WordPress which is a popular blogging script.
Before You Begin
Have the destination domain or directory, an administrator username and strong password, and any application-specific information ready. Confirm the domain points to this hosting account before installing.
Open Softaculous
Log into your cPanel
Click the Softaculous App Installer link in the Software section.
The Softaculous Panel will open.
Choose Your Script
On the left side of you will find a list of scripts.
We are installing WordPress as our example which is in the Blogs category.
Fill in the Installation Details
Click on the Install Tab.
You will now see a form with various details.
Fill in the details like protocol, domain name, directory, database name, admin login details language, etc.
Note: If you wish to install the script on the root of the domain eg: http://example.com - please leave the In Directory field blank.
Once you are done with the details click on install button and this should do the trick. Installation time may vary in accordance to size of the script and other factors, Please be patient.
As soon as the installation is complete Softaculous will provide links to your installation.
Click on the links provided and this should redirect you directly to the site page or the admin homepage whichever you choose.
Frequently Asked Questions
What access do I need?
You generally need access to the hosting control panel and the Softaculous Enduser panel. See the Softaculous Apps Installer guide if you need the panel location. A task can also require access to the application, a specific user role, or an authorized remote service. If a control is missing, check the account permissions and server policy before assuming the interface is malfunctioning.
Why is the option not visible?
Softaculous shows tools according to the script, installation state, server configuration, and administrator permissions. Some features are limited to supported applications or may be disabled by the host. Confirm the script list and later records in the All Installations list. Consult the current Softaculous documentation before trying an unrelated workaround.
How can I confirm the task completed?
Review the success message, task status, or updated installation record supplied by Softaculous. Then test the relevant result directly, such as opening the site, checking the administration page, or confirming the changed setting. Background installs can be checked in the Softaculous task list. Do not rely only on a page refresh if the task can run in the background.
What should I do after an error?
Record the exact error, operation, installation, and time. Check the task list, destination path, storage, credentials, and permissions that apply to the operation. Avoid repeating a destructive action until you know whether the first attempt finished. If a domain needs to be added first, use the Adding a Domain in Softaculous guide. Contact the hosting provider or Softaculous support when the message does not identify a safe correction.
Can a cPanel user perform every action?
No. Access depends on the hosting plan, server policy, Softaculous permissions, and the application’s own user roles. Some options are available only to administrators, while others are limited to a particular script. Use the controls actually shown for your account and do not assume another panel’s menu will match. Do I need a backup first?
Create a current backup before a task that changes files, database content, domains, themes, plugins, settings, or installation records. A first-time install into an empty directory usually does not require one. After the site exists, use the Softaculous backup guide before later changes. A Softaculous installation backup is not automatically a full account backup.
